Description

Midmar Dam and nature reserve, with its large expanse of fresh water, extensive meandering shore line, open grasslands, good road network, outdoors action and recreation facilities makes it an exciting family destination.
Visitors can visit the wildlife park, which features a variety of antelope and small game species.
Midmar hosts a number of sports events, and during weekends and peak periods bicycles, windsurfers, canoes and yachts can be hired and launch tours and sunset cruises can be booked by prior arrangement.
Midmar camp features 14 two-bed chalets, 13 four-bed chalets with two bedrooms, three five-bed chalets with two bedrooms and two six-bed chalets with three bedrooms. All the chalets include a lounge/dining room, fully equipped kitchen and barbecue facilities. One of the six-bed chalets caters for disabled visitors.
Midmar camp has sixteen four-bed rustic cabins with communal ablution facilities.

All accommodation rates quoted are inclusive of gate entry fee, community levy and emergency rescue levy. Therefore only day visitors will pay a gate entry fee.

Directions

How to get there: Midmar is situated just off the N3 and can be approached via the Howick North/ Tweedie off-ramp or the Howick off-ramp. Distance and Time from Gate to Camp: 1 km to the hutted camp and 5 kms to the campsite. Shop: The shop sells curios cool drinks and sweets. The nearest town which has a full range of services is Howick which is 7kms away. Pets are not permitted into the reserve.
