Loteni is situated 72 km west of the village of Nottingham Road, on the road to Sani Pass. There are a few accommodation establishments on this route that provide the perfect country getaway. Loteni is wild and lonely - a ravine hideaway in the shadow of the high peaks. Its name means 'in the ashes', from the burnt appearance of the shale found in this river valley in the magnificent southern Drakensberg To get to the KZN Wildlife reserve (turn right at the Loteni Store and you'll reach the entrance to the reserve after ten kilometres). The gates are open between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. from 1 October to 31 March, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between 1 April and 30 September.
