Bellwood Cottages

A mere four hours from Johannesburg and two hours from Durban, deep in the heart of the breath-taking Natal Midlands, rests Bellwood Cottages. With seven comfortable, fully equipped self-catering cottages – a family cottage accommodating six people, a secluded “Honeymoon” cottage and five cottages on the dam – Bellwood represents the best you can find in persona farm service providing tea, coffee, sugar, soaps and shampoo. All the cottages have fireplaces, bedding, electric blankets, a fridge, stove and microwave oven, a TV and braai/BBQ facilities.

The cottages are located on a 585-acre stud farm with some of the most impressive walks and wide open spaces that KwaZulu Natal has to offer. Children are welcome! Farm life provides considerable entertainment with an abundance of farmyard animals and “goings-on” to keep them out of mischief.
A tranquil country retreat is not all that Bellwood has to offer! On the farm, a “cast” away from the cottages, are two dams. One is a spacious 16 acres and the other a smaller five acres in size. The larger dam is 30 feet deep at the wall and is liberally stocked with rainbow trout, while the smaller dam is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout. The aim is to satisfy the keen fisherman and the sizes of the trout range from one to nine pounds. The larger dam also sports five rowing boats. There are well-equipped fly-fishing shops in Nottingham Road and a local butcher who could smoke your catches. Pre-booked trout fishing lessons and hiring of rods on request.

Spurwing Cottage

 

Spurwing is our fully self-contained dam cottage with all the essential facilities and extra touches to ensure your stay is welcoming and comfortable.

Spurwing is the most secluded of the dam cottages, set at the end of the dam road. With its backdrop of mature trees and outstanding views over the dam, it is in great demand because of its privacy and tranquility.

The 5 cottages around the dam each sleep between 14 – 16 guests (4 or 5 bedrooms and a loft).

Each cottage comprises:

• 2 double bedrooms downstairs (except for Heron which has 3 bedrooms)
• 2 double bedrooms upstairs
• Loft with 6 single beds
• 2 bathrooms with toiletries such as shampoo and soap are supplied
• A fully equipped kitchen with tea, coffee and sugar provided
• A verandah overlooking the dam with garden furniture and a fully equipped built in braai for those misty/rainy nights

Heron Cottage

 

 

 

 

Heron is the largest cottage and accommodates 16 guests. There is an extra bedroom downstairs with a double bed. The dining room is separate with the sitting room/kitchen in an open plan format. Heron provides easy access to the children’s playground.

Guinea Fowl

 

 

Guinea Fowl is our fully self-contained dam cottage with all the essential facilities and extra touches to ensure your stay is welcoming and comfortable.

Guinea Fowl is situated on the banks of the dam. With it’s own rowing boat just metres from the front door, it provides easy access to head out and catch the early morning rise in the mist, or enjoy the sunsets over the dam from the front verandah.  In winter, share a meal with family and friends around the large family dining table with a roaring open fire in the background.

Hadeda is our fully self-contained dam cottage with all the essential facilities and extra touches to ensure your stay is welcoming and comfortable.

Hadeda is situated next to the wedding and conference venue and ideal for your wedding guests.  The gardens around the wedding venue and cottages have been beautifully landscaped and maintained with manicured lawns down to the dam.  Many a friendly cricket match has been held on the laws outside Hadeda with the older folks enjoying a chilled wine and cheering the kids on from the front verandah.

Kingfisher is our fully self-contained dam cottage with all the essential facilities and extra touches to ensure your stay is welcoming and comfortable.

Kingfisher has outstanding views over the dam and as it is set back a little from the other dam cottages it is the most sought after cottage by our returning guests.  The playground is in full view of Kingfisher which allows you to keep an eye on the children playing.

Cypress Cottage

 

 

Cypress Cottage is the original farm house on Bellwood that has been lovingly restored whilst maintaining the rustic feel of home with low ceilings and an open fire place.  It is set among mature trees in a beautiful garden setting.  Relax under the trees with a book or have a braai for dinner.

Cypress comfortably sleeps 6 people and comprises:

• 1 bedroom with a queen bed, 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds
• 2 bathrooms with toiletries such as shampoo and soap are supplied
• A fully equipped kitchen with tea ,coffee and sugar provided
• An enclosed verandah has been turned into a bar area
• Garden furniture and a fully equipped braai

In addition we provide our guests with:

• A maid service between 9 am and 11 am
• A row boat for each cottage on the banks of the dam
• Open fire place with the intitial wood and coal provided
• Electric blankets on all beds and wall heaters
• Linen and towels
• Cots and high chairs on request

Please note the following important information regarding our rates:

The minimum stay over a weekend is two nights and any number of nights Monday to Thursday.

The minimum stay over a long weekend is three nights and any number of nights Monday to Thursday.

Rates quoted are for a minimum of 2 or more nights over a weekend and no minimum applies to bookings from Monday to Thursday.

All minimum charges on cottages will increase in the high seasons i.e. over long weekends, Easter, Christmas, New Year and certain weekends e.g Midmar/Comrades, etc..

All rates quoted include 14% VAT and we do not offer credit card facilities.

Yellowwood captures the true essence of a romantic honeymoon hideaway. This enchanting blue stone cottage under thatch provides a private and serene setting.

The honeymoon cottage has been furnished with romance in mind featuring a queen size bed and open fire place with all the comforts required for a memorable stay with someone special. The cottage is fully self-contained and we provide linen, towels and plenty of tea and coffee.

For an extra touch of romance, we set up Yellowwood before your arrival. Our package costs R385 and includes:

• Strawberries & Farm Cream (When Available)
• Belgian Chocolates
• Champagne on ice (350ml Pongracz or non-alcoholic beverage)
• Local Terbodore Artisan coffee
• Roses & Decorative Petals
• Candles

Yellowwood comprises:

• A quaint bedroom with a queen size bed

Fly fishing Permit. The rod fee is R100.00 per day which includes two fish caught, irrespective of size. Only Trout rods and tackle are allowed for fishing in our dams. Rod fees are to be paid in advance.

Bellwood Cottages: Please note that the minimum stay over a weekend is two nights, and any number of nights Monday to Thursday. Prices for one night only weekend stays are available on application and also for single guests.
